The mission of Sky High is to bring communities together through fundraising events to provide comfort, fund research and save lives of children fighting pediatric cancer and other life-threatening conditions.
"My path to Sky High began with a pivotal moment when I walked the halls of St. Jude for the very first time. It was then that I knew my life had
changed and that I had found my calling.
It all started when I was 14 and showing lambs with my local 4-H club in Vermilion Parish. That year, my lamb passed away and my mother insisted I compete in the Abbeville, LA Cattle Festival Pageant to keep me occupied. To our surprise, I was crowned. This later led me to the receive the crown of Miss Acadiana and I was then introduced to Beanies for St. Jude - a cause where we collected items for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital patients who lived at the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis (RMHM). We visited RMHM to deliver our gifts, host a Mardi Gras parade and cook a gumbo for 52 families receiving treatment at St. Jude.
While visiting the RMHM I met a patient named Dalton that changed my outlook on life when he decided to eat a bowl of gumbo after refusing food for nearly three weeks prior to our Mardi Gras carnival.
While at the University of Lafayette Louisiana, a project with Beanies for St. Jude turned into a sporting clay fundraiser in 2007. This was the official beginning of Sky High. This new organization, Sky High, would raise funds for pediatric cancer. Our fundraiser was led by a group of vibrant women and friends who worked and served biscuits alongside me at a local restaurant, Edies. We raised $50,000 at our inaugural event and the rest, as they say, is history.
Celebrating our 10 year anniversary is like a dream! I often wake up and wonder if the flashbacks of our blood, sweat and tears to get to where we are at, are real. I thank my lucky stars that I have been blessed to lead such a team of passionate and faithful volunteers, board members and staff through our mission. I hope to inspire the next generation of dedicated volunteers, staff and donors. You have my word that Sky High will not stop until we end childhood cancer!" - Brittany Hebert, CEO and Founder
